Coming Soon - New Online Banking and Mobile Banking!

Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union is proud to announce a completely revamped Online Banking system and the launching of Mobile Banking is coming soon! As part of our commitment to technology and our members, you can expect the new system to be more robust, intelligent, and user-friendly. 

MMFCU is switching Online Banking systems to provide many more functions requested by our members, including a Mobile Banking option. PC Teller (MMFCU’s current Online Banking system) will be eliminated.

We are excited to announce some of the new features of the new Online Banking, including:

• Accounts
• Transferring funds
• Savings Goals
• Budgeting
• Message Center
• Draft Services
• End User Site Settings
• Alerts (Notifications)
• Financial Education

Phone Scams -- Who are you REALLY talking to?

Every year, thousands of people lose money to telephone scams — from a few dollars to their life savings. Scammers will say anything to cheat people out of money. Many sound very friendly and come across nonthreatening — calling you by your first name and making small talk. They may even claim to work for a company you trust, like an insurance company or financial institution.

Mid-­Minnesota Federal Credit Union has heard of a number of phone scams, primarily affecting senior members. What’s good to know is there is a very simple solution to phone scams. Simply don’t, under any circumstances, offer your personal information to ANYONE over the phone unless you have initiated contact with the organization.

MMFCU will never call requesting personal information of you such as account numbers, credit card numbers, Social Security number, or any other personal information. Should someone make such requests of you, say you never offer that kind of information over the phone. If they persist, hang up the phone.

Here are a few red flags to help you spot telemarketing scams:
  • You've been specially selected (for this offer).
  • You'll get a free bonus if you buy our product.
  • You've won one of five valuable prizes.
  • You've won big money in a foreign lottery.
  • This investment is low risk and provides a higher return than you can get anywhere else.
  • You have to make up your mind right away.
  • You trust me, right?
  • You don't need to check our company with anyone.
  • We'll just put the shipping and handling charges on your credit card.
One way to avoid calls like this is to join the National Do Not Call List. You can register home and mobile numbers. If you are still getting calls and you are on this list, they’re probably scammers ignoring the law. If this happens, hang up and report them to the Federal Trade Commission.

You can always contact your credit union and report any suspicious requests for confidential account information. MMFCU will use our resources to spread the word about these scams.

Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union Raising Money for Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare

Have you heard about Miracle Mondays at your local Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union branch office? We have begun a fundraising effort for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare through November.
 
Now through November, all MMFCU branches will accept cash donations on behalf of Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare -- part of the Children’s Miracle Network. Gillette, based in St. Paul and with a clinic in Baxter, serves children with disabilities and chronic conditions.

Starting Monday, Sept. 29, you can also invite your friends and family to “Like” Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union’s Facebook page. For every new “Like” we receive, we will donate $1 to Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. We will share stories from children and families who have received care from Gillette to show why this is such a worthy fundraiser.

MMFCU staff have also been greatly supportive of this cause -- if you stop in to one of our locations on a Monday and see them wearing jeans, make sure to give them a pat on the back! Each employee who donates $2 to Gillette can wear jeans to work the following Monday. The more employees you see wearing jeans, the better!

Stop by any MMFCU branch to learn more about Miracle Mondays and Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, to make a contribution and to show your support. In turn, MMFCU will match up to $5,000 in donation dollars raised. Together, we have the potential to raise a great deal of money for a wonderful cause.

MMFCU Website Gets Modern, User-Friendly Makeover



Earlier this summer, Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union’s website got a makeover! Not only does it have a more modern look and feel, but it’s also more user friendly! The new responsive design enables users to view a consistent look, whether they’re on a computer monitor, a tablet, or a Smartphone.

Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union Highlights Financial Education During Financial Literacy Month



Across Minnesota and across the country, credit unions are celebrating Financial Literacy Month in April to help increase awareness about personal finance education. While credit unions formally celebrate financial education efforts during this month, these ongoing efforts are a long-term commitment.

Providing financial education to their members and to their communities is part of each credit union’s mission. By focusing on financial literacy efforts for members and forming partnerships with local organizations and schools, Minnesota’s credit unions work to ensure that consumers have the knowledge and skills to successfully manage their personal finances.

Through its Education Network, Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union partners with community organizations to provide information, educational seminars, and networking opportunities to help consumers improve their financial well-being. In April, Mid-Minnesota FCU is offering the following financial education workshops and classes: Car Buying with Confidence, Building Your Home from the Ground Up, How to Rent, and Saving & Investing. Other popular and highly-attended sessions include The College Process, Retirement Red Zone, and Identity Theft Prevention. These and other education sessions are scheduled throughout the year and are also free and open to the public.

Educational initiatives like these help create a stronger financial future for all Minnesotans. That same dedication to creating a financially-literate next generation was echoed by the Minnesota Department of Education last spring when it implemented changes to the state’s K-12 Academic Standards in Social Studies. The standards now include additional requirements in financial education for students of all ages and address several fundamental concepts of economics and personal finance.

Credit unions recognize that the better all Minnesotans manage their finances, the stronger our state’s economy will be. Large or small, urban or rural – 133 credit unions across the state agree that improving financial literacy, increasing personal savings, decreasing debt and living within a budget is a formula for success.

How To Repair Your Credit Score

With the New Year upon us, it is always a good idea to check what your credit score is. If your score is low it is important to note there is no quick way to fix it, it will simply take time. In fact, out of all of the ways to improve a credit score, quick-fix efforts are the most likely to backfire, so beware of any advice that claims to improve your credit score fast. The best advice for rebuilding credit is to manage it responsibly over time.



3 Things You Can Do Right Now

1. Check Your Credit Report –Request a copy of credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com. Federal law requires each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion to give you a free credit report every 12 months if you ask for it. Once you’ve obtained your credit report make sure that you recognize all the accounts and loans on it. Then, check that all the information on it is correct. If you find information that you believe is not correct, contact the company that issued the account or the credit reporting company that issued the report.

2. Setup Payment Methods – One of the biggest contributing factors to your credit score is making your credit payments on time. Many financial institutions offer payment reminders. There are also programs that make payments automatically for you, just ask your financial institution if they provide this service.

3. Reduce Debt – This is easier said than done, but nevertheless a great way to start off the New Year! One of the best ways to pay down debt is by starting with your highest interest rate loan first. Keep in mind it is always a smart idea to only have as many credit cards and/or loans that you can manage responsibly.

Update on the Target Card Security Breach


Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union continues to work with VISA to ensure our members’ debit and credit cards affected by the December 2013 Target data security breach are being closely monitored.

MMFCU members, whose debit or credit card was affected by the data breach, were mailed a letter regarding the steps MMFCU is taking to re-issue a card.

This incident serves as a reminder to all members to be consistently watchful of personal accounts from all financial institutions as a general precaution; and also remind you that MMFCU will never ask for personal information via e-mail or telephone that you - the member - has not initiated. For your protection, here are a few best-practice tips regarding your overall credit security.

  • Monitor your credit and debit cards from all financial institutions. If you see unusual activity, contact the credit union or financial institution, who issued the card, immediately.
  • Watch your credit report via www.annualcreditreport.com for unsolicited account openings. This is a FREE service to review your credit report annually.
  • To deactivate a MMFCU credit or debit card during non-business hours, call 1-866-820-3862.
  • Be aware of credit “phishing” attempts on your personal information. MMFCU will not ask for any personal information via telephone or email that you, the member, has not initiated. If you are unsure a phone call, e-mail, or “pop-up” message is legitimate, call your local MMFCU branch at a phone number you retrieve from our website or local phone book. Do not return calls via a phone number provided by the “in-question” call or email.
